Words Written in the Margin
January 1, 2023 @ 8:00 am - March 20, 2023 @ 5:00 pm
$5.00Present moments do not just disappear. Through Words Written in the Margin-the writing of a haiku a day-a visceral understanding of how these moments fit into the context of the rest of our lives can evolve. The short verses can stab and elate, lifting us when we didn’t realize we were buoyed in place. They hint at both the transcendence and mediocrity of everyday life and with luck, in retrospect, help us see the beauty of the life we’ve recorded in these short verses and snap shots of our 365 days.
My inspiration for this ‘event’:
The Haiku Year is about the appreciation of small moments of beauty, ultimately adding up to the appreciation and respect not only for our individual lives but for all the lives that intersect with ours. The Haiku Year effortlessly urges readers to enjoy details and to let spare moments pierce through the numbness of everyday routine.

A Haiku a day, that’s not so much to ask!*
I’ve been writing poetry for a very long time, staying away from any traditional forms for fear of constraint and a distaste for rhyme ;p
In 2022 I happened upon a freer understanding of the joy of haiku, and I’ve been hooked, lined and sinkered!
To write haiku in this freer way-yes the 5/7/5 syllable if you’d like but more on point; verse 1-a mundane, in-the-moment, noticing of something, verse 2-a sense or point of this noticing, verse 3-a deep universal or personal meaning, has become a delightful way of growing the appreciation for my daily life. All the mundanity of it becomes a gift and the beauty of each presence, a present.

Join me in making the commitment to a haiku a day and see how 365 days* becomes something more than just another year gone by~
We’ll get together via Zoom once to kick off, sometime in January, then longer to close at the end of 2023! <3
welcome and thank you,

*We do the best we can! In no way are you obligated to write everyday if time, life, and talent doesn’t offer it up! It is always and forever what you give that matters, not the obligatory entry. Do your best, and post your best to the FB group <3 <3 <3
